ABOUT CA Camps
Mission
CA Camps was created in furtherance of Chizuk Amuno’s mission to offer informal learning and growth opportunities to school-aged children at Chizuk Amuno Congregation and Schools. By offering safe, educational, and fun programming, CA Camps will show you why you can’t spell CAMP without CA!
Safety
We work tirelessly 12-months a year to keep our campers safe!
- Our campus features state-of-the-art security including dozens of high resolution cameras, monitored in real time on site and warning systems to ensure weapons and other threats stay off our campus.
- We have an armed School Resource Officer on site at all times campers are on campus
- We work in partnership with state and local police and fire departments to ensure proper safety protocols.
- We train our staff before camp and re-affirm our training all summer long.
Education
CA Camps is a Summer Camp designed by career educators!
- Social and non-classroom education is proven to be just as important as classroom skills (including swimming!)
- Our program staff are career educators and work in school settings 10-months a year.
- Our Jewish and Israeli Culture programs reinforce the year-round Jewish education, making it fun to learn about and practice Judaism.
- We design our schedule and culture around being school-ready and our campers are socialized and prime to succeed in school.
Fun!
As one of our campers put it: CA Camps is 100% FUN!
- Summer is the time to make memories!
- We prepare top-notch and exciting programming to fill your campers summer!
- Our schedule is jam-packed with special events, theme days, special programming and more!
- Our culture of sunshine (even on rainy days), smiles, and fun is CONTAGIOUS!
We can’t wait to see you DOWN BY CA!

Summer Staff
We utilize seasonal staff ranging from 16-year old (junior counselor) and up. Most bunk counselors are students (upperclassmen in high school or college). Most of our instructors are educators who work in school settings during the “other 10”.
We are proud to feature a 4:1 Camper to Staff ratio!
Our bunk staff report to our Unit Heads, who are senior level staff, all of whom are career educators!
Meet Our
Unit Leaders:
Jackie Modell
Originally from Syracuse, New York. I have called Baltimore my home for over 22 years. I live in Pikesville with my husband and daughter Jillian, age 14 and dog, Cooper. I graduated from The University of Hartford with a Bachelor of Science in Education and received my Master of Science in Special Education from Simmons College in Boston. I currently work at Roland Park Country School where I teach the Emerging 3’s.
I am thrilled to be the Junior Village Director this summer at CA Camps. I have wonderful memories of being a camper myself as well as being a counselor.
Looking forward to an O’mazing summer!!
Donny Yankellow
I have been a teacher for over 25 years and am currently the Makerspace teacher at Krieger Schechter Day School. In addition to teaching, I have over 20 years experience working in Baltimore area camps in a variety of positions.
After an amazing experience last summer, I am so excited for my new role at CA Camps this summer!
Christa Roop
I have been married for 12 years and I have two girls, Makenzie and Madison, who also attend CA Camps!
This will be my 2nd year working at CA Camps! I also worked with Robyn and Kori at Camp Suburban as a counselor for the Pre-K and K bunks. I worked for BCPS for 4 1/2 years starting as a K assistant and moving into a para-educator role. This year I started at Krieger Schechter Day School as a Kindergarten General Studies Teacher. I am looking forward to my new role here at CA Camps this upcoming summer!
Looking forward to an awesome Summer!
Rebecca Barker
With a lifelong passion for the camp experience, I am thrilled to have taken on the role of CIT Director at CA Camps. My journey in the world of Camp began as a young camper at the JCC, and it has been a central part of my life ever since.
I was a counselor at Camp Milldale for 10 years, where I had the privilege of working with 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. I also work at Goldsmith preschool’s summer camp (where I currently teach the 4 year old program during the school year). My commitment to the camp environment continued to grow, and when the opportunity arose, I eagerly embraced a new role within CA camps. As the LIT and CIT Director, I guide 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th graders, helping them develop into remarkable counselors and instilling in them a love for camp.
I am truly dedicated to the mission of CA Camps and am excited to play a role in shaping the next generation of leaders. Together we will continue to create magical, life-changing summers for campers and maintain the spirit of adventure and camaraderie that makes camp such a special place.
